A small reservoir with a dream view of the Hohe Tauern – absolutely suitable for children and an Insta-spot in a class of its own!
You can either take the CityXpress up from Zell am See and walk about 10 minutes from there – the path is even suitable for baby carriages. There is a great playground with a pirate ship by the lake, which is great fun for the children. There are many small benches by the lake from which you can enjoy the view.
There are no restaurants at the lake itself, so you’d better bring your own snacks 😉
You can then walk up through the forest to the right of the playground in the direction of Schmitten and continue along Schmidolin’s hiking trail to Areit. After a short walk, you also come to the first stations…
The Klammsee, a world of its own at any time of year … and not far from the Dorfchalets and Kaprun. Just take the road in the direction of the Kitzsteinhorn, but it’s best to walk through the beautiful Sigmund Thun Gorge first (free of charge with the summer card) … takes about 20 minutes and is no problem even for children from about 4 years of age, a carrier is recommended for small children.
March is simply the best time to ski … your toes no longer freeze, the slopes allow you to make long turns again and the sun is already strong enough to keep you in your deckchair a little longer.
