A small reservoir with a dream view of the Hohe Tauern – absolutely suitable for children and an Insta-spot in a class of its own!
You can either take the CityXpress up from Zell am See and walk about 10 minutes from there – the path is even suitable for baby carriages. There is a great playground with a pirate ship by the lake, which is great fun for the children. There are many small benches by the lake from which you can enjoy the view.
There are no restaurants at the lake itself, so you’d better bring your own snacks 😉
You can then walk up through the forest to the right of the playground in the direction of Schmitten and continue along Schmidolin’s hiking trail to Areit. After a short walk, you also come to the first stations…

March is simply the best time to ski … your toes no longer freeze, the slopes allow you to make long turns again and the sun is already strong enough to keep you in your deckchair a little longer.
If you’re looking for the best postcard view in the region, you’ll find it on the Mitterberg. It is also an ideal starting point for a hike up the Schwalbenwand and, thanks to the Berggasthof Mitterberg, you can even enjoy coffee, cake and other simple, down-to-earth regional dishes.
