Zeller See

More than skiing – Zell am See Kaprun

endless possibilities off the slopes too

Here in the region, skiing may be one of the main reasons for a vacation, but Zell am See Kaprun offers so much more than just skiing on the slopes. Feel nature and experience winter away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Here are our favorites:

  • Tobogganing fun at Kohlschnait in Bruck or in the Köhlergraben
  • Cross-country skiing on one of the many cross-country ski trails
  • Hikes & walks with guaranteed dream views
  • Winter yoga, forest and ice bathing
  • Wellness & relaxation in the Tauernspa
  • and much more…

RODELING

Tobogganing is certainly a favorite for young and old. You can hire sledges at the toboggan runs and don’t have to bring the bulky vehicle yourself. At Kohlschnait we usually go up the path, it only takes 15-20 minutes to get to the hut and if you want, you can go further up afterwards. At the top of the hut, you can enjoy a hearty meal, and if you book in advance, you can also enjoy the region’s very popular “Hutessen”. Afterwards, depending on the snow conditions, you can whizz down the mountain more or less quickly… What fun! Please make sure you wear a helmet…

LONG RUNNING

If you don’t want to be on the slopes but still want to have skis under your feet, cross-country skiing might be the right thing for you. Just 3 minutes from Dorfchalets is the start of the 107 km network of cross-country trails (some are even floodlit at night). Equipment can be rented at the fire station in Kaprun (for a fee) and you can also book lessons here.

WINTER HIKING

Hiking in winter, with or without snowshoes, is simply fantastic. There is an incredible variety of paths through nature. The region’s network of trails offers around 40 kilometers of cleared walking and winter hiking trails. There are guided snowshoe hikes via the tourist office, and equipment can be hired from good specialist shops, e.g. Bründl Sports.

In the evening, there are torchlight hikes in Kaprun and Zell am See, which are particularly magical.

If you are one of the walking ultras and Insta-Pic hunters, we recommend the Kaprun walking tour, the Klammsee and a tour around Lake Zell.

YOGA, FOREST AND ICE BATHING

If you want to use your vacation for maximum relaxation, self-discovery and mindfulness, we can recommend the following new offers. On the Maiskogel, a nature educator offers guided forest bathing. Breathing, meditation and mindfulness exercises are included.

Easy and free winter yoga is offered until the end of March in the Elisabethpark in Zell am See, every Monday without advance booking.

For all intrepid cold showerers, there is another special offer: ice bathing (sometimes even in combination with yoga – link below). I still find it so gross after trying it a few times, but afterwards you just feel good!

RELAX IN THE TAUERNSPA

And when it comes to activities away from the slopes, the Tauernspa is of course not to be missed. Admission to the water and sauna world is included once a day in your stay in the village chalets! As an adult, you save 58 euros (as of winter 25) for daily admission! Our tip: in high season, it’s better to arrive early or after 5 pm to be sure of getting in. You can easily check the occupancy rate online…

These were just a few options for great activities off the slopes! There’s no way you’ll get bored…

Have fun!

Relaxed Christmas time in the Dorfchalets

“At the beginning of December, all ski resorts open and you can make your first turns on the slopes as you please. As there are no vacations yet, the slopes are relatively empty and nothing stands in the way of the ultimate skiing fun. Then off to the Tauernspa, as admission to the sauna and water world is included once per day and person in your stay in the village chalets. Here you can revitalize your tired bones and recover from the day’s skiing to be fit again for the next adventure.
