If you don’t want it to be too strenuous with the kids or you only want to spend a few hours on the mountain, the Maiskogel is a good choice:
We like to take the cable car to the mountain station (included in the Zell am See-Kaprun Summer Card ). From there we hike comfortably on the relatively flat path to the Unterbergalm (open until the beginning of September).
The path leads through a forest where there is always something to discover to the left and right. Adults will probably need 15 minutes, with small children it can take longer …
At the Unterbergalm you can enjoy a delicious buttermilk and the alpine classics cheese and bacon bread as well as a Brettljausn, all homemade! The Alm itself is quite rustic, but very child-friendly, with a sandpit and toys. And the view is really great! 😍⛰️☀️
And depending on the season, you may also find a few cranberries (wild blueberries) in the forest on the way back, for a nice blue tongue 😜🫐
The Klammsee, a world of its own at any time of year … and not far from the Dorfchalets and Kaprun. Just take the road in the direction of the Kitzsteinhorn, but it’s best to walk through the beautiful Sigmund Thun Gorge first (free of charge with the summer card) … takes about 20 minutes and is no problem even for children from about 4 years of age, a carrier is recommended for small children.
March is simply the best time to ski … your toes no longer freeze, the slopes allow you to make long turns again and the sun is already strong enough to keep you in your deckchair a little longer.
