Maiskogel

Kaprun's local mountain

A very uncomplicated excursion option not far from the village chalets is the Maiskogel – Kaprun’s local mountain: a good choice even in mediocre weather, with good clothing nothing can stop you anyway.

+ family-friendly and even suitable for baby carriages, also suitable for dogs

+ relatively easy bike trail

+ original & local culinary offerings

Simply take the gondola directly from the Kaprun Center to the Maiskogel: from 15 May to the end of October, the ascent is included in the Summer Card offer.

Once at the top of the mountain station, a small playground and toilets await the children. For an extra charge, you could also take the K3 from here to the Kitzsteinhorn. However, we usually stay on the Maiskogel and the path to the Unterbergalm is an easy (dog and pram-friendly) hike. In about 20 minutes you can reach this rustic mountain hut from here, which offers homemade delicacies such as cheese and bacon, buttermilk etc. There’s also a sandpit for the little ones and a fantastic view…

Afterwards you can hike up an easy ascent to the 3-Wallnerhöhe (*yeah a summit victory*) and then to the Glocknerblickhütte – also one of our favorite huts (summer and winter). There you can enjoy a great Brettljause, a good Kaiserschmarrn, hut fries with bacon & egg paired with a view of the Großglockner, Austria’s highest mountain (as the name suggests).

From there you walk back to the mountain station in about 10 minutes. This tour is suitable for the whole family and is also a good option in cloudy weather.

You can find more information about the round here:

The Maiskogel Trail also starts at the mountain station, a relatively easy bike trail for which you don’t need to be a bike pro…

Relaxed Christmas time in the Dorfchalets

“At the beginning of December, all ski resorts open and you can make your first turns on the slopes as you please. As there are no vacations yet, the slopes are relatively empty and nothing stands in the way of the ultimate skiing fun. Then off to the Tauernspa, as admission to the sauna and water world is included once per day and person in your stay in the village chalets. Here you can revitalize your tired bones and recover from the day’s skiing to be fit again for the next adventure.
